Ford Lgt 100 wiring problem
| Frank | The wire from my ignition switch to the coil keeps melting. I can not detect any shorts.
|
| rcbe | If that's a dedicated wire (ie., only goes from sw to coil - nothing else), then most likely the coil itself has an internal short letting too much current travel along that particular wire - making it very hot/melting. Might be worth replacing coil or if yer good with elect diagnosis, ck for the short at least. Yer call... you might also try a separate fresh length of wire from sw to coil just to be sure that original wire is not faulty.. |
| frank | I did replace the wire and it still heats up very quick. This tractor has been rewired in the past. Should there be an inline fuse on this new wire? |

| rcbe | no special dedicated fuse for the wire - like I said in first reply, you've got a short someplace either inside the coil itself or close by - running that separate wire and having it get hot proves that much. If you don't know how to troubleshoot elect circuits, get pro help. will cost $, but prolly cheaper than what you will end up burning out if not real careful. Just MHO... |
