MTD Yard Machine Clutch adjustment
| Jim | I have a 24hp. MTD Yard Machine. The power belt broke. I replaced it. Now the variable speed lever on the left side of the mower does not work at all. It will start but the blades are engaged. When I put it in gear it starts to move weather the brake/clutch pedal is depressed or not. I didn't do anything with the transmission or the transmission belt. Why the change? How do I correct it.

| rcbe | There should be a replacement belt installation procedure in your tractor's owners manual. If you don't have it, get the model number off the machine's ID plate (usually under the tilting seat) - go to the MTD website and follow their links for downloadable manuals. Also usually advisable to use only OEM replacement belts for those variable speed drives - and in sets if several belts involved - generic aftermarket belts haven't seem to have worked that well. |
