Sears Yard tractor engine problem
| Tom Morgan | I have a Sears Craftsman Yard tractor. I have about an acre of lawn. After about 25 minutes, a big bunch of smoke comes out the muffler. I orginally thought it was from spilling oil on the engine, however, I cleaned the engine off and it is still happening and coming directly out of the muffler. After it cools down, its fine for about 20 minutes or so then it happens again. Help. |
| Joe | If smoke white-blue white from exhaust/muffler area, you may have a crankcase breather valve sticking when eng gets hot, allowing oil to be blown into carb & eng burning same, remove air cleaner, see if there is any oil in filter or around inside frame of filter assembly, also check that valve cover(s) not leaking dripping oil on muffler,if smoke black you may have a float in carb that's sticking, flooding eng or dirt in float needle seat, preventing float needle from seating, flooding eng.Other possibility, fuel pump leaking(if eng has)allowing gas to get into crankcase, diluiting & raiseing oil level & excess oil/gas mixture being blown into carb from crankcase breather valve

| TStray | My lt200 with 17.5 Briggs will not start. I cut grass for about an hour turned it off to take a break and it backfired. After the break it would not start, starter turns fine, I am getting spark, checked the gas flow from filter and that is OK. While trying to start it a bit later it backfired twice but still would not start. Any suggestions? Tom |
