JD LT155 backfires and stalls

Owen	Help! My 1999 JD LT 155 backfired then stalled. Now, as it turns over and sounds like it's about to start, backfires again. I've never had any problems with this tractor, so consequently, don't know much about the mechanics of the engine. Any advice would be helpful. The lawn is getting very tall! Owen
Joe	Try replacing spark plug,if eng still won't fire,remove plug & ground to block,crank eng & confirm you have spark,if you do,reinstall NEW plug,remove air filter & put a shot of starting fluid into carb,if eng fires/runs,then dies,problem in fuel system(plugged filter,bad/weak pump,dirt/water in carb)if eng doesn't fire/run with starting fluid,,goto www.kohlerengines.com & download a service/repair manual for cv15 eng,will describe how to troubleshoot eng,or take tractor to local shop if you don't have the mech/elect knowledge for eng repair.
tony	YEAH starting fluid will fix it for shure ....OMG
Tim	My JD 2000 LT155 does the same exact thing. I've read in other forums otthers hhave had the same problem. Has anyone had any success in diagnosing and fixing this.
