Craftman mower dies when release clutch/engage mower baldes

Thor wicklund I have a newer Craftman mower 917.275972. Engine runs fine but when I release the clutch/or engage mower blades, engine dies. Bypassed the seat switch, installed new clutch swith, no change. The parts manual shows a small black relay, whcih I ordered, but do not see it on the tractor, any ideas of what else I can check? Thanks
Kevin H sounds like a short in mower clutch to ground
Joe If you installed a jumper in connector in seat sw connector, remove jumper & see if that cures problem, depending how tractor wired with jumper you may be simulating a not sitting on seat condition, check owner's manual for a wiring diag, should tell you if seat sw n/o or nc when seat up,with jumper you're making a n/c condition.
Fred You may want to check the fuel pump/diaphram. I've had a couple of these problems and they were doing the same thing you said
