JD 445 stalls out when pto is engaged

Fuzzy687 Hello All! I have a JD 445 that will stall out when I engage the PTO to the deck. I was using it when it just shut down. I started it back up the tractor runs fine. Then when I pull the PTO switch,it will stall out. The PTO will engage but will immediately stall out the tractor. I can manually move the blades. I disconnected the deck shaft from the tractor. The tractor PTO seems to work and without stalling the tractor. I replaced the seat switch today it didn't help. I hope you can help me out.
Terry Hmmmm seat switch is usually the culprit. Check to make sure you have good fuel flow. Might also check the brake switch.
bontai Joe If you replaced the seat switch, I'd then look at the wires to and from the switch,
andrew I was working on a 425 last week with the same problem. It wasn't electrical. John Deere has a DTAC case on this problem and they say that the problem is that the flywheel on the engine isn't big enough to keep enough momentum going to start the deck. They suggest that you always start the deck at full throttle. I also found that the machine had one bad spark plug and i adjusted the carb a bit. This may be a help to you, but it may not. Good luck.
bontai Joe I reread your post and saw that the PTO turns on if the mower deck is disconnected and everything keeps running, right? If so, then the seat switch is ok, gotta be something binding up tight enough to stall that motor between the motor and the mower deck. Check your drive shaft "U" joints, mower deck gear box for lube, check the mower spindles for bad bearings, got any wire or rope twisted up around the blades under the deck?
