|Bill||Craftsman 20 hp b&s engine.
Starter just spins but won't engage the engine. I replaced solenoid and the starter. No luck. When I turn the key the starter just spins. won't pop up and turn the engine.
|Henry||Could be your missing a few teeth on the flywheel. You've bench tested the starter to verify the drive gear is/isn't working right? Try turning the engine 20* or so and see if it kicks over.
|Joe||I'm assuming new starter was complete with new pinion gear/clutch mounted on it,if so check that you didn't rev cables on battery when you replaced sol & starter,heavy cable from sol should goto + or pos terminal on battery,if connected in rev,starter will run backwards & drive will not pop-up to engage flywheel.
|Bill McGee||Problem solved. I put a different battery and it cranked right up. Must have chargerd the battery backwards...
Thanks for the help.
