Kohler engine stops running

dreambeavr After about 5 minutes of running, my Sears riding mower stops and will not re-start. It seems to be heat related. Gas, spark plug, air and oil filters, battery, all changed. What is causing my cut in power? Suggestions please.
Joe Get eng hot, when it cuts out ,disconnect plug lead, insert a phillips head screw drive, into plug boot, hold shaft of screw drive 1/8" away from base of plug, crank eng,see if you have spark,if NO spark,if eng has oil guard system, try disconnecting oil pressure sw(this is usually in area of oil filter with a single wire connected to it)crank eng,if you have spark now,you probably have a bad pressure sw,OR it's possible you have a defective filter or wrong filter,if still no spark, when eng hot,but when eng cools down you have spark,I would say you have a bad ign triggger module, coil or solid state ign coil(depending on eng model & type of ign used)going bad & breaking down with heat. One other thing you can check, pull flywheel cover & sheet metal covers on eng block, make sure all passages between cooling fins are clean & open, not plugged with old grass, leaves& mouse nests, you may be overheating eng with restricted air flow.If you don't lose spark when eng quits it is a fuel supply problem ,restricted fuel line,dirt/water in tank or carb bowl, weak defective fuel pump that is sucking air around diaphram when hot, possible loose carb or bad gasket where it bolts to block,or if eng is getting tired & burning oil, valves that have carbon buildup on stems and are sticking in valve guides when when eng gets hot.
Joe As an after thought to 1st post, when checking for spark when eng quits, either disconnect ign kill lead at eng,or have someone sit on tractor & crank eng, depending on how safety circuit is wired it may kill ign if nobody sitting on tractor when cranking eng.
Joe While looking for some other info in kohler mauuals last night I ran across someing interesting I didn't know(which happens more often than not)you didn't mention eng model,if eng mod m/mv or cn/cv some of these engs came with a hi temp sw,from what I see in pic, looks like it's mounted with 1 of the head bolts, with a single wire to same, probably connected to ign, grounds same when sw closes, killing ign, check around under sheetmetal,if you find sw disconnect wire & see if this cures cutout problem,if it does next problem is to find out if problem caused by bad sw or other problems on mower, restricted cooling or eng overload caused by mech drag due to a bad part.
