|Bob Stuckey||I have a sabre 1538. Have replaced the solinoid and the ignition switch which were both bad. Situation now is when the key is turned to start, the 15 amp fuse blows. I had the starter bench checked and it is drawing 50 amps. Starter turn smoothly.
Any suggestion on where to go next?
|Joe||Check to see if you wired fuse into lead going to starter(heavy wire from sol to starter),should be connected to heavy + wire coming from battery to sol,if you didn't disturb any other wireing outside of disconnecting wires on sol & ign sw,its possible you may have the wrong type of ign sw,or it's connected wrong.Try disconnecting wire that goes to ign on engine,replace fuse & try cranking eng,if fuse blows then problem is in the way you connected ign sw & sol.If fuse doesn't blow & eng cranks then you may have wrong type of ign sw and you're shooting 12v into ign coil on eng.On briggs & techumseh engines with point or solid state ign you need an isolated contact on ign sw that closes when ign sw turned off(1 side to ground,other to kill wire from eng)you may have cooked ign coil if you put 12v into same.If eng an old kohler they had 12v coil on them,and needed 12v from ign sw,newer one's have a seperate coil built into alt.to supply ign module,if you put 12v into kill lead you probably cooked ign module.
