| Tim | Was all set to buy a Wheelhorse 520 with 300 hours for $2900 until I started reading the discussions on this board of Sears DYT4000's with Kohler engines. I have just over 2 acres of gently sloping land and plenty of trees. Don't really need a garden tractor but I've always loved looks and reputations of Wheelhorse. Doing the match for strictly lawn mowing, I can buy a NEW Sears DYT 4000 with 19 horse Kohler, 42" deck, three-bin bagger AND three-year extended warranty for almost $1000 LESS. My heart says Wheelhorse (also has closest and best dealer) but my head says Sears. Which would you pick?

| another Tim | I prefer new, that way I know for sure how it has been serviced.I also like a guarantee on something so expensive. My 2 cents.

| Tom Shively | I would say without hesitation that you could get at least 20 or 25 years out of the 520 if properly maintained.

| Wheel Horse | I just spent 6 hours yesterday raking leaves and mowing with my 25 year old WH C-141 8-speed with a 20 year old 48" deck. From experience of using WH's for awhile now, they last alot longer than a store bought one. I seen the neighbors and friends go thru alot of tractors and I am the only one with a Wheel Horse. It really is your decision and what you plan on doing with it. I also pull a 980 lb. lawn roller with my 1959 RJ59 just for fun. Good luck on your decision...

| Wheel Horse | Before I get chewed out, there are good store bought tractors and bad ones, just the same for older WH's...My one neightbor has been using the same Craftsman mower for years while another one who was a renter went thru 3 TSC brands in the 3 years he lived there after selling his beautiful Cub Cadet 1450 (should of bought it), it is all in how you take care of them...I did plow his driveway for him on a 23 year old WH...

| bonati Joe | Not being able to see the Wheelhorse myself, I hesitate a little in recommending it over the Craftsman. I will say however, that the Wheelhorse 520 is a much more substantial machine than the DYT4000. With 2 1/2 acres to maintain, you would have options down the road to add some serious attachments for tilling, airating, and plowing the occasional snow storm.
