|don||I have an ariens garden tractor. with a 16 hp kohler engine, k-341.the engine won't turn over. the battery and starter checked out ok.I pulled the s/p and the engine turned over.put the s/p back in engine turned over and started, shut if off and tried to start it again wouldn't turn over.wondering if it could be the compression release (acr mechanism )?
|rcbe||First thing right off - take that tracor battery to a shop that can load test it. Batteries going into failure can do just what you are describing.and a simple voltage chk by you with a VOM will only reflect the existing "surface" charge of mebbe 12+ volts.
If that;s OK, then chk starter and pinion to be good. If still OK, check engine to see if it is getting hydrolocked from raw gas flooding thru carb. (Tipoff there can be smelling gas in your engine's oil).
Lastly, look at engine mechanics, including ACR.
