|AJ||Came over from the Red channel to get some information for a friend. He has a L 2402 BT with a D1402 engine. Can anyone tell me where the timing marks are on this model. Thanks for any help.A.J.
The timing marks are located behind a tear-drop shaped cover on the RH side (oil filter side) of the engine.
One 13mm bolt holds the cover in place. It may come off leaving the cork gasket in place, scrape off the gasket and you will be looking in a hole that has what appears to be a pointer cast into the opening.
This is used to line up the timing marks. There will be one for each of the three cylinders, rotate the flywheel through that hole with a sturdy straight blade screwdriver, pulling out the cylinder decomp first of course!!
Make sure you're looking at the correct cylinder/mark, otherwise you'll get off track.
The 1402 engine is not one that goes out of time willy-nilly! In fact regardless of hours, I doubt you have a timing issue, unless you have removed the injection pump/govenor etc.
What's the reason for keying in on a timing issue with this tractor? I usually check timing using the the "wet method", but you can check it with an inductive timing light as well.
|a.j.||Thanks Vic.My buddy bought this tractor pretty cheap but later found out the head was cracked. He sent away for a reconditioned head, put it together and it was bad to.Now he's got a brand new head on it and I guess he wants to check the timing. Thanks again Vic ,I'll relay the message. A.J.
