frozen hydraulic filter-bolt

Dakota I have a B1750HSD. The front hydraulic filter is stuck (the filter just above the mid-PTO). WD40 over three days and an impact wrench delivering 250ft/lbs hasn't budged it. Heat is not an option unless I disassemble the transmission case. (not something I want to do.) Can I get access to the filter from the mid-pto if I drop that out? Any other suggestions??

Smokin Dog Can't advise on your question. However I have
had frozen bolts of that nature. WD-40 will
never get to the threads. Heat from a torch wont
make it to the frozen threads, The case will
absorb the heat and not the bolt threads. Been
there done all the above. Two ways we used in
the shop....first one more time and not so good,
cut off the bolt head and drill out the bolt.
Second one, the best and easy to do, Weld a nut
on top of the bolt head the same size or a little larger, weld through the nut hole to the
bolt head, wait untill the red heat from the
welding is cooled off, but not cool to the touch, That kind of heat will go to the bolt
threads, while still hot to touch, twist it out
with a wrench. I use Hobart 6013 rods to do this, and it works. If the housing the bolt is in
is aluminum, you can still do it but have to be
carefull with the heat from the welding. Go a
little at the time. CAUTION; I always cover all
the areas I can with wet towels, stops fire and
spark damage on paint. Clamp the ground cable
on a solid part of the housing close to the bolt. Careful not to clamp where the current may
go through bearing or the like.
Hope this may help some, if all else fails.

farmm I don't want to be a smart ass, but are you turning it the right way. 250lb of torque on a filter is a bit much. Especially that this filter should have been removed and replaced previously in the tractor's life. It should have been hand tightened originally. My car dealer wrenched my oil filter on my car beyond specs and almost locked it on, I could not get it off, they had to take a very large wrench to get it off, I was not happy, even though they did not charge me to get it off, like I said most filters are put on with 10-20 lbs of torque. Hand torque. Counterclockwise to remove.

Hope you don't set your tractor on fire.

JOE Farmm, they are talking about a bolt holding
the cover on the tranny filter, not a spin off
filter. It had me going for a while also, had
to read it twice.

farmm Thanks Joe, hard to believe a bolt would be frozen that hard. Try a breaker bar instead of an impact wrench first. But that is only what I would do, else welding is in order.
8x56mn Something that has worked for me on occasion. Try tightening the bolt first and then back it off. SDometimes this will break the bond.
Larry Caldwell That's why I keep Never-Seez and a supply of lock washers around.
