Replacement engine L2550

Laura Dose anyone know what other engines will fit in a L2550? I've heard the D1462 will. Will any of the 4 cylinder engines fit? I haven't been able to find a replacement for the D1402-D1-A engine that's in it.
Also does anyone know what engine is in the L2850
I can't read the serial number of the engine. And I couldn't get a piece of paper and pencil tracing off of it. Here is the serial number of the tractor L2850D 53025
Thanks, Laura

farmm Ok, the L2550 as I know is a 3 cylinder and L2850 may be a misprint as a 4 cylinder, it should also be 3 cylinder. Putting a 4 cylinder engine in a 3 cylinder tractor is like stuffing a V8 in a Honda. Is your engine not repairable?, I would try that route first. I think many 2550,2650,2800 series engines may fit as a 1402, the 1462 was in 2900,2950 etc. Talk to your dealer as they have cross references. Much easier to repair engine than trying to adapt another engine, or buying another one.
Not much information available other a good dealer to tell you what can replace what.

Laura So I was hoping to find other engines to fit in my L2550 since remannig the engine is $1500-$2000 plus the core charge and the frieght. The engine in the L2550 has a crack in the block, the bearings were spun, and it needs a new crank shaft. Oh and the guy burned up my brand new clutch! I bought a L2850 with a broken bell housing because the bell housing on the L2550 is the same part mumber. I was going to replace the bell housing and sell the other tractor for parts. But alas when we took it apart it was not the bell housing as it appeared, it was the transmission case. An arm off the clutch went right through the wall of the case (it didn't come with the pieces.) So no tractor! I can get a case for it but the idea of taking apart the transmission is a little daunting. And I have not been able to find a whole transmission.
When I bought the L2850 I was told it had a 4 cylinder engine, but like I said I can't read the number off the engine and I can't get a tracing off it. I was hoping I could maybe get the engine to fit in the L2550 seeing how bell housings are already the same.
I have tried dealers they are altogether unhelpful. I called everyone around here about bell housings, finally some dealer in Colorado helped me with the part number and I live in Pennsylvania.
Thanks, Laura

JOE If both tractors have the same bellhousing then
the L2850 engine will fit the L2550. I have a
L3000 and it's a three cyl, so the L2550, and
L2850 both are 3 cyls. You may have to use the
L2550 clutch assembly so it will mate with the
tranny. By the way, the best way to tell how
many cyls a engine has, is count them. A quick
look at the exhaust manifold shows 3 ports, a
quick look at how many injectors it has, if 3
then it's a 3 cyl.
