kubota dl2250 fuel problem

steven Problem started about 2 weeks ago. I thought I ran the tractor empty and just refilled with diesel and kept going.

Then it stalled again last week, exact same way, but this time it was 3/4 full.

Changed fuel filter (was ugly) and cleaned housing.

It seems that its not getting enough fuel (runs for a few minutes then dies). I can see the fuel level falling through the clear filter housing. It refills very slowly.

How quickly should fuel come out of the petcock? I'm only getting a slight trickle (when the filter and housing are removed and petcock is set to "on."

Any suggestions?

I've tried bleeding the system according to the owner's manual. It says to open the bleeder valve and run the tractor for a minute, shut off tractor, then shut the valve. Problem I'm having is that the fuel level drops so quickly with the bleeder open that it won't run for the full minute. I can see it drop 1/8" every second with the bleeder open.

Thanks
Steven

farmm Other than cleaning the fuel tank, try cleaning the fuel vent, normally in the gas tank cap. It could stop fuel flow. Or just open the gas cap and see if fuel flow improves.
steven Tried taking the fuel cap off, no difference.

Could it be the transfer pump?

Just went out and ran the tractor again just to finish mowing...ran for about 4 minutes and then the level dropped again in the filter housing.

farmm Still sounds like the fuel tank has junk in the bottom that stops fuel flow.
Bob M Had the same problem with a 2550. The fuel drawing down in fuel filter is a sign you probably have air in the fuel lines or junk in your tank. When I had this problem, I ended up replacing the fuel pump and the washer that's behind the petcock on the fuel filter. Let us know what you find.
Steven Took the fuel tank out, pressure washed it. A bunch of junk came out, including the long lost washer for the fuel cap. Also replaced the fuel lines to the filter housing, flushed that out with carb cleaner.

Only had a chance to run it for 20 minutes but that seems to have eliminated the problem. I was able to bleed the system per shop manual with no problems this time and she's running much smoother now.

Thanks:)
