mobil 1 oil
| Greg | Can someone tell me what type of Mobil 1 oil should be used in a 1999 b2100 hd tractor?
|
| Bevis | You have to use diesel type oil. Look at the API specs, s is for gas engines, C is for diesel. You will need to know which C type your engine calls for. I assume your tractor is diesel. If you can't find the answer in a manual, Pick up what every one uses, Shell rotella or Chevron Delo 400, Look at the API specs on that oil and then see if your Mobil 1 has the same C specs. Your looking for something like cc, cs , cf and so on. |
| Larry Caldwell | Mobil 1 is an automotive oil. Mobil's diesel oil is called Delvac, or Delvac1 if you want to use a synthetic. Castrol's diesel oil is Tection, or Exilion if you want synthetic. Hypuron is Castrol's diesel semi-synthetic, and is an excellent choice for tractor use. Most people go with Shell Rotella-T 15w-40, which is an established diesel engine lubricant with an excellent track record. You can buy it at Wal-Mart, which makes it more accessible than some of the higher cost oils. Delo 400 is another popular and easy to find oil. Just remember, whichever oil you choose, the very best oil for your tractor is NEW oil. Tractors work in dirty, hot environments, and often are running wide open, pulling as hard as the engine can work. Oil can break down quickly, get dirty, and grind the guts right out of the engine. Kubotas are notorious for overheating if the radiator gets partially plugged. When in doubt, change the oil. Never run past the recommended oil change interval. |
| Greg | Thank you for the reply. I knew about API ratings and the reasons to look for them. My largest concern was I could not find the cc-cd api ratings on any of the oils that I was looking at. Since then I have had someone tell me that anything greater than cc-cd will work just fine. The other thing I found rather strange was the 10w-30 or 10w-40 the manual calls for. I thought most diesel oils were 15w-40 or at least a lot of them that I have read. Again thanks for the help!
