How is it happening? I had a plastic hood on my JD 5400 for 9 years without a crack. I now have a new JD 990, all steel.

I'm with Frank on this one. I've had plastic hoods on a couple of Deere tractors for over 20 years and they are still solid. But to answer your question, I know of no source of metal replacement hoods. I would think you could have a local sheetmetal shop make you one if necessary.

I had problems with cracked plastic hood mount at the hinge on a 4500. Instead of buying a new hood I made metal brackets that attached under the hood with bolts that the hinge now attaches to. Problem solved and cheaper than a new hood.

I have just replaced the hood on my 4400, but I am having problems with the gas cap cover. I can't figure out how to put it on. Any help would be appreciated.
