| Patrick Nolan | I recently bought an LT160 and am very happy with it. However, looking at the owners manual and the service manual there is no maintenance and no parts breakdown of the transmission. Does any one knows who makes the transmission and are there parts availible other than a replacement transmission from John Deere if it ever breaks down. I can't see replacing a transmission for an O-ring/seal leak. There is not even a provision for checking or adding oil. What Spec of oil would you use. 90W gear oil or hydraulic fluid? My old MTD I had to relace a gear in it and parts were readily availible.

| Patrick Nolan | With a little bit of searching on the internet I found out that the manufacturer of the hydrostatic transmission is Tufftorq, Model K46 LT for the LT 150,160,170 & 180. There are John Deere P/N's listed for most of the components. The oil is 5W30 Motor Oil. I was able to print out a parts diagram with a parts list for the John Deere. Also some of the other versions use the same style K46 axle and tufftorq sells individual components. so the transaxle can be serviced if the need arises.
