318 year model? value?

Les Evans I'm looking at a 318 with a 50" deck, duoble bagger, and a 30" rototiller. Can't tell which motor it has/don't know where to look. The model # is 00318x370105. Can the year model be determined from this? It's in pretty good shape, all original I think, has "414" hrs per the meter. Guess as to value?? Thanks

bontai Joe Here is the data on your tractor:

Model: 318
Typecode: M00318X
Serial Number: 370105
Model Year: 1986
Engine Model and Size: B43G Onan 18HP
Lift Type: Hydraulic 2 Lever
Manufactured Location: Horicon, WI
If the hour meter is accurate, you are looking at a low hour tractor considering it is 18 years old. Depending on condition, it could be worth around $2000 or more. Figure a low of $1500 for a tractor with some rust, a few dents, but still in good running condition including a tiller in the same condition. If the tiller tines are not too worn and there is minimal rust, and the tractor has no rust or damage and no leaks and the front PTO for the mower works and the rear PTO for the tiller works and the tiller raises and lowers, $25oo would be a good price, maybe more. To break it down, the tiller in good condition generally sells on Ebay for around $300-500. The rear PTO drive components (which were optional equip. on the 318) sell for $150-350 and the mower deck is another $250-350. The 318 is a legendary machine. Check out the thickness of the frame and the size of the drive shaft from the motor to the rear hydro. Some pickup trucks are not built that strong. None of the common garden tractors of today can match it in strength. I own two 316s and I consider the motor to be a wear item that might have to be replaced every 2000 hours or so as the rest of the tractor will just keep going on and on.

Les Joe- holly cow-that's more info than expected!!! Thank you!! That bit of info about it being an '86 model seems significant on this forum a s far as ignition system goes.
Over the last few hours I've been debating with myself about this unit, and wether I need a three point lift also(for sprayer, spreader and towing use).
The other tractor I've been considering is a Kubota B7100- although more expensive, seems to be more "tractor-like"- all the belts on the JD have me alittle jumpy. Suggested JD models comparable to the 7100?? Any and all feedback appreciated:)

bontai Joe I'm not familiar with the Kubota B7100 and so I can't offer an informed opinion. I wouldn't worry too much about the belts on the Deere. In my experience, they last a long time and are easy to replace. My 316 is the "baby brother" of the 318 and it is a great tractor for lawn and gardening tasks as well as an excellent snow remover. If the Kubota offers a cat "1" 3 point hitch and a 540 RPM rear PTO, it would be capable of heavier work especially if diesel powered. Something useful on a 3-10 acre property.

Les Thanks Joe for the timely info. I won't be able to test the snow removal capabilities however as I live in sunny Florida!!
bontai Joe Sunny Florida, huh? So you won't be hooking up the 250 pound, 48" wide snow blower anytime soon. :D Just to make you feel good, it is a dark rainy day of 50 degrees here in the Poconos.

The 318 can be fitted up with a cat "0" 3 point hitch or the Brinly sleeve hitch for a whole assortment of available attachments, but they are smaller than their catagory "1" cousins that I am guessing that the Kubota B7100 would use. What is the plan for this tractor? Just working around a suburban yard of 1 acre +/- where the 318 will be a great choice? Or is it going to be used more than just weekends on a larger piece of land where the bigger Kubota will be a good choice?
