JD 175 hydro

steiny I have a JD 175 hydro with the 38" mower deck. The height adjustment lever doesn't stay set. IE, If I set the height adjustment then raise the deck and lower it again the adjustment doesn't remain set.

I beleive the problem is because I don't have the raise assist spring in place nor is there a spring in place on the height adjustment lever.

Could someone describe how either of those springs are to be installed?

Fred Buterbaugh Steiny,

I have a JD 185 with exactly the same problem. One end of my spring is still attached (in the small hole right next to the lever cover screw hole), the other end of the spring is just hanging. I know that the loose end has to attach some how to the lever, but I have yet to figure it out. Hopefully someone out there knows. Sorry I couldn't help.

Dave I have the same problem with my Hydro 175...... I'd appreciate it if either of you would keep me in the loop if someone comes up with an answer.

My right side is roughly one inch lower almost all the time. When I raise it up with the deck wheel I get unsightly lines in my lawn due to the pressure of the deck wheel on the grass....

karl lasse on the jd 160-185 models there is spring that attaches to the plastic. You need to remove the plastic cover (1 screw. The spring attaches to the lower side of the plastic and the other end of the spring attaches to the metal deck. the adjustment lever just slides along the spring, it doesn't actually connect to the height lever.
It is kind of tricky putting the plastic peice back on.

PS.You should adjust the height when the deck is not engaged. It just doesn't work when the deck is lowered.

B Radford Yes, my 175 Hydro did the same thing . I sawed out a small piece of wood and wedge it between the adjustment lever and body to hold the lever from moving. It's an easy fix, Just cant change the deck height too easy, but I never do that anyway. It's a 1987 model.

anyone have a drive belt pulley route schematic for the 175 Hydro? I cannot seem to get any help from any JD dealer.

thanks B Radford
