I just replaced the oil/fuel/air filters, oil, fuel, battary and spark plug and it wont fire? It hasn't been started in about 2 years so I did the above to freshin it up. I have tried 2 different spark plugs (Champion and NGK) and when I turn the key the starter just turns and turns. I took the plug out and left wire connected and cranked while holding with leather glove(in dark) and no spark? I played around with the idol adjuster and watched fuel go into the fuel filter so i know its getting fuel. O yea, I took the gas tank off and flushed the old gas with new gas and then filled up with new gas then took the fuel hose off above (old) fuel filter and sucked old gas through to drain and clean hose of old gas then hooked hose back up. Any idea's, this is my first JD and im not to familiar with the Kawazaki motors as i am B&S motors. ANY help would greatly be appreciated! thx

I do not mean to insult you, but I need to ask, was the plug in good contact (no painted surfaces)with the engine block when you tested it?

No harm taken. Yes block spot was lightly sanded to make sure of good contact. I am guessing at this point it would be the ignition module that screws to the outside of the block and has one wire attached. Not real sure though.

Ok, to make sure I didn't get a spark I went home at lunch and disconnected the wire from the plug (still inserted in block), shoved a screw in the plug end, shut the garage doors turned out the light and turned the key while holding the wire w/screw close to end of plug. wouldn't ya know I gota spark. Soooo that rules out my module idea because I am getting spark. Now I'm guessing fuel, any idea's. If you would like me to test something to help quantify a remedy, just ask.

My guess is carb problems, most likely it is varnished up from old gas. You can try spraying carb cleaner in it, but most likely you will need to tear it apart and clean/rebuild it. Not an expensive thing if you need your repair shop to do it. My fingers are too big for delicate work, so my carbs go out. The last one cost me less than $30 to be cleaned and rebuilt.
