help picking my next tractor
| Kevin | I currently own a Scotts John Deere L2048 lawn tractor that I have had for about 7 years now. I would like to get something that is a little heavier duty. I was thinking about something like a 214 or 140. Anyone have suggestions on what model to look for? I am looking to spend about a $1000. I also heard it is getting harder to get parts for some of the older models. Thank you for any help Kevin |
| Dave | Kevin - I would look for a good 318. More accessories are available for them, they are one robust unit, and most parts are still available. It is true, however, that parts for most of the older tractors are slowly becoming more difficult to locate, but if you look a bit, you should find most of what you need. - Dave

| bontai Joe | What I would recommed would depend on what you want to do with it. If it's Just cutting grass, and snow removal, the 318 or it's "little brother" the 316 would be great choices. If you also want to till a garden, then the cost of the 300 series machines and the 140 gets pretty high vs. a 214 or 216 when you figure in the rear PTO and the cost of a tiller attachment.
