650 john deere starting

bob bowlin I have a 1987 John Deere #650 which is in A-1 condition. I have maintained this tractor religiously. I have a starting problem. It will continue to click when I am turning the key to start. This will some time take 6 or eight times before the starter will engage. Have had the starter at a starter repair shop and they found nothing wrong inside the starter or solinoid. Also have a problem with starting and running. Once the starter engages it take a good bit of cranking to start. Once it starts it runs and idles good. While driving the tractor it will some times flutter as if it is going to die, if I put the fuel peddle all the way down and hold it will flutter straighten up and run. Any help would be appriciated .Thanks
bontai Joe Have you checked the battery to see if if has enough amps to turn over the motor? It can measure 12 volts, but still be weak, needs to be tested under load, most auto parts stores will do it for free, takes about 20 minutes to do.

Problem #2, rough running, could be dirty fuel injectors, cracked fuel lines, fuel pump, and possibly a couple of other things.

Bob Bontai Joe sorry for delay in the followup to your reply. I have checked the battery with a load tester and it shows good, Have also charged battery with deep cycle charger and it charges up to full and shuts off. I think I will try to put another battery that I know is good and see if it makes a differance. Thanks for the advice on the running problem. Will check out these items. Appreciate your help.
