John Deere 520 1958 Starting problem
| Jeff Lanser |
Have an old John Deere 520 with starting problems. Has the step starter. Turns over and starts right up, but as soon as you remove foot from starter it shuts down. If you keep foot on starter remains running, but full draw from battery. I know it's electrical, but not sure where to start.

These tractors have bypass starting when you are cranking distribter gets 12 volts. Are you getting voltage with switch on? If you have voltage to coil is is less than 12 volts. There is a ceramic resistor fastened on pedstal for steering shaft. If you have voltage at coil points or condenser could be bad but 12 volts may make it run.
