JD 285 PTO CLUTCH CRANK BOLT
| John Zikosky | The bolt holding the PTO Clutch on had backed out and the Clutch fell off destroying itself. Replaced Clutch,Bolt, and Belt. A few days later it did it again. Now every 10 Minutes or so it comes lose again. I LockTite the bolt but did not help. Any ideas? The crank threads are okay and new clutch bearing seems good.

| NICK DIMEGLIO | Hi John, I had a similar problem with a new pto clutch for my JD 185. The new clutch has a key( machined in as part of the unit and you need to cut off the excess key that is on the shaft originally or the clutch won't tighted up to the pulley and you will never get to torque the bolt to 48 ft lbs per spec. |
| John Zikosky | Thanks Nick for responding. I knew about the key along time ago. I had found out the hard way. I will try the torque setting. When I asked the dealer they told me tight. I didn't have that setting on my torque wrench.

| NICK DIMEGLIO | Hi John, One other thing, i notice the flat washer on my bolt for the pto was a little cupped. Make sure the concave of the washer is up against the bearing, this will probably help the bolt from not coming loose. a little Lock-tite will help also. Good Luck |
