Oil Cap

A. palmer jr. My John Deere 425 is constantly blowing the oil cap off and I'm wondering if there's a fix for that. I find it kind of silly that they would make a plastic push-on cap rather than a screw on or locking oil cap. I know it's probably got excessive blow-by but I'm not in a position to overhaul it now.
John Heine Engine should have a crankcase breather is it plugged?
A. palmer jr. I'm not sure where the crankcase breather is. I'll take a look today.

A. palmer jr. Mine has a hose going from the crankcase to the bottom of the air cleaner; it definitely is not plugged. I started it up with the air cleaner off and air poured out of the hose. I think maybe it's just got too much blowby. Maybe bad rings? It runs good and doesn't smoke or use oil though. Maybe the cap was just on too loose. It didn't fit too tight before. I don't have to worry about that cap now, my wife lost it in the yard and we couldn't find it.

A. palmer jr. I went to the John Deere dealer today and they asked me about the oil line being stopped up. I told them no and they told me it might be the crankcase valve. I'm not sure why that little valve would cause the cap to be blown off, because it lets air in the line which already has air coming from it. I'm going to install the new valve anyway, can't hurt.
a. palmer jr. The John Deere dealer sold me a valve that looks like it's made of something flexible, like plastic and said it's a crankcase breather valve. I haven't put it on yet but I don't see how this will help as I already have a lot of air coming out of the breather hose. I may put it on anyway; I guess it can't hurt anything.
bontai Joe My first guess would have been the crankcase breather also (called a PCV valve in your car) So how did you make out with this?
