John Deere 425 leaking transaxle
| Herb | Hi, I recently purchesed 1997 425 that has been meticulously maintained and has 325 hours on it. The problem is that I noticed that there is a laek that appears to be coming from right above the filter on the transaxle. The Fluid level is in the acceptable range on the stick. I was thinking that the motor to transaxle gasket could be leaking, buit then thought that there might be a vent above that area that could be dumping fluid. Is there a vent above that area?

I have 2 425s in service. One of them developed a leak as you describe. It was the gasket above the filter. John Deere Est that I got by calling Ranged near $2000.00 I repaired it my self; EMAIL me direct I will walk you through it. Step by step. You will be suprised how simple it is. Mine has no leak. and is still the best graden tractor built in it's time.

| A. palmer jr. | You might check the shaft seal on the left side from driver's seat. You can't see it until you take the seat and fender off. It is in connection with the red button on the floorboard which controls traction. There is a shaft that slides in and out and sometimes knocks the seal out. I just took a screwdriver and slid it back in and it stopped leaking. JD dealer says it happens a lot on the 425. |
