john deere 400 backhoe

david my 400 backhoe front bucket works fine when cold, but after it warms up it wont hardly work.i had all front cylinders rebuild still same problem. does the pump on the front of the engine run the bucket? or does it have a pump inside the case that runs it? the back hoe seems to work fine. any info would be appreciated. thanks dave
Dale G. Basgall David : Is your backhoe also slow ? On those units make sure which function is slow by the cycle times in the book, if you need them I have the book on the cycle times. Verify that all functions are porportionally slow and if there is one or another that does not show the same symptoms as being slow write them down to compare times. The slow hydraulics are one thing and then the pressure capabilities are another. Does the breakout force on the backhoe seem as strong as usual, even if it's really slow you need to find out if the pressure is there. Try raising the machine when it gets slow on the front loader with the stabalizers. Also after that test try to rotate the steering wheel as the loader is getting slower and note if it gets harder to steer when the loader bucket is being raised and after the symptoms arise.

There is a charge pump in the trans but let's not go ther right now. First get these established and it could be as simple as an o-ring in the destroke solenoid.

Write back with the results and we can go further.

david dale: when the bucket gets slow the power steering will get hard if you let it get really warm. i have to put it in netural and rev the engine to get it to raise slowly, also it will shudder unless you let off a little on the handle. the backhoe and stabalizers seem to work ok. now when i first start the machine up everything works fine for awhile. ive got a friend with some pressure guages i could use. might not be a bad idea. thanks dave
