john deere 401-b industrial tractor

We recently purchased a john deere 401-b industrial utility tractor. When you have nothing hooked to the 3-point it goes up and down like it should. We put a woods mower behind it and it will not lift. Any suggestions at what it might be. We used to run this mower on a John Deere 400 tractor and it worked great.

Could be an internally leaking lift cylinder that won't lift more than it's own weight, could be a leaking valve with the same problem. Are you loosing hydraulic fluid anywhere?
