LA125 first 8 hour service questions

Sparky On my brand new LA125 I am trying to do the first 8hr service and can't seem to find the grease fittings on my mower deck spindles. Do I need to take the mower deck off to get to these or should I be able to get to them laying on my side.

Also, the grease fitting for the "front axle center pivot" is impossible to get to with my rigid 10" grease gun nozzle and a flexible grease gun hose might still be a problem since my clearance is only maybe 2" due to a bracket being in the way. Do they make grease gun hoses with 90 degree nozzles for tight places?

One more thing, I changed the oil but the book did not mention doing the filter. Should I just go ahead and do the filter, leave it, or was I to assume that changing oil also means the filter, too.

Thanks, it's my first rider mower.

Dave Sparky - Grease fittings, if the mower deck has them, should be on the top of each spindle. You normally have to remove the deck to reach the middle spindle, unless your deck has only two blades. If the outer spindles are completely covered with belt guards, you'd need to remove those. Then again, it's possible your deck does not have greasable spindles. If it does, the grease fittings are atop the spindles.

You can get a swivel head for a grease gun. That's what I have. I always use JD Polyurea grease on all grease points on my tractor.

Always change the filter whenever changing the oil. - Dave

Sparky Yes, I have belt guards. I'm looking at the manual now and it shows I have a fitting on each of my two spindles. However, the fittings are on the opposite side of where I was looking. I must of been looking at the 48" deck instead of the 42."

The filter seems to sit higher up on the engine than the drain plug. You think I'd be ok just changing filter without having to re-drain all the oil? I'm thinking there must be an oil pump in there so Mr. Gravity shouldn't be a problem?

Besides the privately owned lawn store where I bought the mower, which has very inconvenient store hours, do you know of regular commercial stores that sell oil filters and the like? Lowes, auto parts, Walmart, etc?

Dave I always use JD filters, but Wix or Napa filters would be my second choice. If you have already changed your oil, you can go ahead and change the filter. Just be sure to check the level and add to the full mark.
