Can anyone tell me other than replacing the starter what to look for? Battery is good, cables good, power to the starter verified, Was starting but had try multiple times before starter would engage. Now, turn the key and CLICK, nothing else.

If you look in the grill in the lower right corner, back in about 10" under the side of the engine you will see the cable/wire connectors to the solenoid; The top one goes to the battery. the bottom one connects to a cable that goes into the starter. these are 1/2" nuts; I take a welding rod with a wire from the + positive battery terminal To one end of the welding rod and touch the terminal on the solenoid that goes into the starter. If the starter turns over it is likely a bad soleniod. and the starter should be replaced. Oh i use a welding rod becuse the flux is a insulator.I have a fleet of 318 13of. That is the best garden tractor built in that time frame.

In the previous submitted entry I submitted the location of the terminals is reversed. The upper one goes into the starter the lower one goes to the battery; The one that goes into the starter is the one you want to touch with the battery. If it only clicks that is usually the solenoid but the plate in the solenoid is corroded, and no contact, I hope this helps .
