| Dale G. Basgall | Coonie : When you say hard to crank are you explaining a situation whereas the starter is laboring hard and the engine is not spinning over as quickly as normal or, does the starter seem like it's spinning as fast as usual but the engine fails to start ? Dale G. Basgall |
| Coonie | Thank for answering me back yes the starter is laboring hard and the engine is not spinning as quickly as normal , let me add I filled it full of fuel today also , just wondering don't know for sure , if maybe some water might be in fuel causing this problem , thanks for any info. |
| Dale G. Basgall | Coonie : It seems on those tractors some people are having problems with the battery terminals at the battery posts. Make sure your are really good and snug. Otherwise you need to charge the battery up really good and if you are still having electrical problems then write back. Water in the fuel should have no affect on cranking speed, but it will make a difference if the filter gets plugged from it, the unit will not start. If the tractor runs then dies and then is hard to start it would be most likely another situation , perhaps the fuel hose. I had problems with mine and one day it was running fine then died, ever since then I had hard starting and then sometimes it would just shutoff. It turned out to be on the plastic gas tank at the bottom was a brass elbo screwed into a plastic bushing with a hose clamp. I install a new brass fitting and teflon taped it over and over cause of the plastic bushing, installed new fuel hose and it's run fine now for a couple months. Dale G. Basgall |
| Coonie | Thanks Dale for the info. John Deere place came today and they are taking it in , it is still under warranty so I am going to let them take care of it , then I am going to get rid of it and get me another tractor

| John Patrick | Had same problem with 2 of our 5515 tractors. Turned out to be faulty electric fuel pumps. the engine starts and runs for a few minutes then starts to starve. JD did a PIP for this, my dealer fitted new larger capacity fuel lift pumps and the problem was solved.
