790 stalling when put in gear

Paul All,

I just aquired a used, very low hour 790 4WD. Engine starts fine but when I attempt to put it in gear it stalls. Same thing forward or reverse. It acts like there is a safety switch that is killing the engine - not like it is choking or an issue with the transmission but more like the ignition switch is being turned off. I looked in the manual and didn't see anything. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

Bob Try putting it in a lower gear
bwhitehead there is a safety switch located under drivers seat(looks like a black button) that controls a kill switch that is causing engine to stop. try adjusting the bracket that houses the switch to ensure that you have good contact (depression) when seat is lowered, then check the fuse for this kill switch located on the left side of the tractor just behind the side panel
Andy I am having the same problem with my 770. I just replaced the safety switch under the seat but the problems have continued. I asked a mechanic at the local JD dealer and he prior to replacing the switch and he couldn't think of any other possiblilities.
