160 steering woes

Colin I Have a 1986 John Deere 160 Lawn tractor, and I am having some streering problems.I know this is a common problem with this vintage, and I have diagnosed what the problem is. However, in order to fix it I need to get the front axle off. This is where I have run into some issues and am looking for a little insight into the matter.
Any info will help.
Thanks
Colin

ross You will need to remove the muffler and electric pto clutch then you can remove the steering linkage and the bolt that holds the front axle in.
