low compresion in 2&3, what to do?
| manny r | ok, this is the same naa that is having oil out of exaust manifold, tractor idels good but bogs down under load, any way i checked the compresion on cylinders and 4=110psi, 3=40psi, 2=60psi, 1=90psi, cylinder 3&2 had what looked like a drop or two of water on plug. this tarctor does not smoke out of tail pipe but oil leaks out of exhaust manifod, do yall think that maby i have a valve issue verus a ring issue, i think if its the valves this would explain more than a ring issue, do i need a overhaul of engine or a valve job, what are my choices and were can i get parts with out breaking my wallet.

| Frank | My tractor was exhibiting some of the same issues as you have, I did a valve job, replaced the rings and bearing inserts on my 53 Jubilee this past summer. It really was an easy job and I’m glad I did it as she’s running great with lots of power. Parts are easy to get – Google Ford NAA parts and you’ll find a long list of parts suppliers. I spent around $500 for parts which included $100 to have the head and valves machined. I was lucky as the pistons were ok and the cylinders were ok as well. The only special tool you will need is a cylinder cutter to remove the carbon buildup at the top of each cylinder so you can get the pistons out. |
| Bob G | Do a comprssion check with a few teaspoons of oil in spark plug hole, if the readings go up then you have a ring problem if not then valve problem. good luck |
