compression check readings
| sal | cyl. 1, 2, 3, all top out at 120psi. no.4 goes up to 145 lbs. Carbon build up in no. 4?? Your thoughts. |
| bob G | 120 is like new readings. I would double check the gage. Check with air comprssior?
| sal | Gauge is brand new, plus I checked w/ air comp. It is right. Maybe the previous owner rebuilt the engine also. Only had her for less than a month. they redid the clutch and gauges, new carb. and etc. etc. etc.. Runs good , but have the moisture issue. white smoke (steam) out of Breather cap and exhuast. Clutch makes noise when not engaged. quiet when engaged. Can live w/ that.
| Jim Loveridge | Sal, if you are getting water in that no. 4 cylinder it will raise the compression.
| sal | that's the cylinder that i keep pouring the mystery oil in for about a week and a half, because i thought the rings were stuck. The plugs are looking better the more i run her around. I need to get a thermostat as there is not one. I seem to get H2O in everything, now it is in the Trans. part. I need to get her under cover this humidity is awful down here. 85 - 90% and the daytime temp. is near 90. Maybe I can lean her down and it may help clean out that cylinder of the excess buildup.
| sal | maybe i am getting H2O in all the cylinders and that is why i am getting 120 psi+ in all the cylinders. Could that be??
| Bob G | I really am just thinking out load here but I think if you ere getting much water in #4, it would steam clean the cylinder out. When I blew a head gasket I was getting a lot of steam out the exhaust. can't say I looked at the oil breather tube. does the engine oil show signs of water? sounds like you need to take the head of and check it out. good luck |
| sal | she starts up so easy and runs real hard. I just want to break her down to check the head gasket. The first two weeks that i had it i put a bunch of MMO in the cylinders, that maybe is the reason i am getting the readings that i get.. How long before all the MMO burns out and she is back to normal. The steam is something that until i get it cover indoors that i will have to deal w/.
| Bob G | I would think that the MMO wold be gone by now if you have stopped putting it in. Looking radiator with the motor running and warm and see if you are getting any bubbles in collant. Also keep track if you have to add collant. Just above the core is the right level. the oil in the trans/hyd from condensation most likely will continue even with covered storage. Has to do with the heating and cooling cycles and the humidity. Good luck |
| Larry | I'd drain out the coolant. Flush it real good with water and then get a can of K&W Block Sealant. Just follow the simple instructions. It sounds like you have a cracked head or blown gasket. I used this stuff on an old Nissan I had. My son ran it hot. It was so bad that coolant was coming out the exaust when it started up. The one spark plug wouldn't even fire it was so wet. I used this stuff and have drove the car for 35,000 miles without a problem. It cost around 8-10 bucks. Could save you some big money.
