Dennis My question is when I start my tractor and hydraulic fluid is cold my blade will go up but after the hydraulic fluid warms up the blade goes up real slow but for me to get to go up I have to throttle up. Need help please
Bob G First off, check the fluid level, second, make sure there is no water in oil. If the oil is yellow, chances are it has some water in it. that in itself would not be the prime reason for it going up slow. Internal leaks or a worn oute pump would. You can remove the plate on the right side with the dipstick on it and check for leaks. It should not leak much from the top of the housing where the cyclinder is. It may be leaking from the bypass valve in the bottom of the housing. you check this with the tractor running. the PTO shaft will be turning and will churn up the fluid some.
If you do not have the FO-4 service manual, I would get one. Has a good section on the hyd sys.
Also check out John Smiths 8n site. look under maintance section

good luck

Dennis Thanks for the information but what I really needed to no is the bypass valve the same as a safety valve that is below the PTO shaft.
BOb G yes, book calls it a pump relief valve.
lha Dennis,my best advice would be to change hyd. fluid if it hasn't been done in a while.I use the tractor hyd.oilFord134.You have to clean around pump of all sludge. Then at least you will know that dirty oil is or isn't the problem.I took 4 gals of deisel after draining old oil and ran it into the trans.with pumpsump drain open. After doing this 5-6 times it was clean as a whistle.---lha
Dennis Bob I was able to find a problem on the tractor the problem was the gasket was bad on my pump. Put The new gasket in everything works fine. Thanks again for your help Dennis
