rebuilding a 8n starter
| Jim Schofield | What els in involved in rebuilding a starter for a 8n. I know you have to replace the brushes and bushings, but how do you check the windings. The guy I bought my tractor from said he burnt up the starter when he tried to start it after a rebuild. What should I check for. Jim |
| Bob G | If it was damaged then you may be better off taking it to a starter rebuilder. changing the brushes and bushings is pretty straight forward, but checking all the winding gets a bit more envolved. You would have to check for open and shorted windings. A bit out of my league Good luck |
| Jim Schofield | Thanks Bob, I may just do that. I won't be doing much with it until spring anyway. Just thought I's try to get her started before winter. Jim |
| lha | Why don't you start with your crank handle. It is not as hard as you might think.Take the starter to a mom&pop shop[look in yellow pages under starter-alternator]they will do a better job,---lha
