change head gasket
| sal |
Will I need to replace or check anything else when I change the head gasket. I will make sure that it is flat and not warped. As soon as she fires up I get white smoke(steam) coming out of breather cap. So I must have H2O in the cylinders.

Which gasket is preferred? All metal or the soft one?

Sal, I don't know which head gasket is best, but I think I would try the soft one. However, if you have white vapor (steam) coming out of the breather cap, thats a red flag to me. You are getting steam into the crankcase. When you have the head off check all the cylinders for cracks. I hope I'm wrong but that doesn't sound good.

Jim, she fires up real easy. It probably has been running for 3 or 4 yrs. so I think the rings where stuck and have finallly loosened up. I put the mystery oil as Bob suggested and I believe it worked. When I run it I only go for an hr. max. plus it sits out in the florida weather, which is high in humidity so i am guessing that the moisture gets into everything and everywhere. I may have a blown head gasket, which i will check out. I need to check the compression before i tear the head off. This is all new to me and i am not that mechanicially inclined, but am having fun learning. In fact I am picking up my 3rd. 8N tomorrow. 3 in less than 2 months. Am i a gutton for punishment. I do not have the first one running good yet.
