gets hot quick

sal within 5-10 mins of running the rad. starts to boil over. put would cause this? have white smoke coming out of exhuast pipe.
Don Sal, i have always thought that white smoke from the exhaust was a head gasket.......i hope not, but let us know......do you have a thermostat in the system?
sal I will try and find thermostat tomorrow. Not much compression in number 1 cylinder, would that also point towards a bad head gasket?
Bob G I wuld bet on a blown head gasket. thermostsat will be in the upper hose.
Don Sal, Bob G is correct, the thermostat is in the hose. I forgot to mention that....let us know
sal no thermostat , she gets hot , but I am not losing any water other than it boiling out the cap. How much H2O would I lose from the head gasket?
Bob G How much you lose will depend on the leak, but when running it will putting compressed gas into the water. and when not running it will put water into cyclinder.

make sure the problem with boiling over is just not caused by overfilling the radiator. water level should be just above the core. Do not fill to top. I would put a thermostat in it also.

head gaskets are not that hard to change. If you do take the head off make sure the head is not warped. use straight edge or take to a machine shop. I had to have mine ground when I blew a head gasket.

Bob G If you really want to see if it is getting hot, get a therometer and measure water temp.
sal rad. coolant is clean, no fuel or oily film.
Don Sal, i dont think you will find that in the coolant.........i think what is happening is that the coolant is being burned and that is why you have the white smoke, steam coming from the exhaust.....
