Loose Steering Wheel

We recently bought a piece of property that the previous owner threw in an 8n tractor and brush hog because it has been untouched in 5+ years and is serverly overgrown. While clearing the overgrowth, the steering broke loose and only turns right. When I turn it left, the wheel spins freely approx. three full turns and the steering wheel rises out of the column about 2" and then stops. When I turn it back to the right, it screws back in, lowers back into the column, and then turns right. I bought a shop manuel for it, but that only shows the parts without any trouble shooting help

Depending on the year of your tractor there are different gear boxes. At the least you will need a total rebuild. Might be easier to find a used one. migdht check at just 8ns. do a google search for used ford 8n parts.
might want to check out john smiths 8ns site to determine what year you have.
