noisy transmission
| Rodney Smith | I have a 1951 8n with a noisy transmission. I'm pretty sure it is a bearing. Is there a difference between a throwout bearing and a pilot bearing? Also, does anyone know of an online schematic and how hard it is to change these bearings?

| Don | Rodney, a pilot bearing and a throw out bearing are 2 different things. Go to....the smiths 8N ford tractor page and that may help you out....good luck, let us know how it turns out....Don

| Jim Loveridge | Rodney, Sometimes a throw-out bearing will only make noise when the clutch is depressed but will go quiet or the noise will change when the clutch is released. I think a noisey pilot bearing is rare. Does it make noise at a stop or while moving? Becides John Smiths web site, you might want to invest in the I&T FO-4 service manual. They are worth the moderate price. Let us know. |
