8N runs dosen't move

peter schwartzott Hello , I need some advice. My 8N got hung up when my brush hog hit a stump. when I tried to pull it off something let go . I let the clutch out ,nothing ..no drive no PTO . My son said he read somewhere that you could weld the coupler drive shaft in the tractor, if that is indeed the problem . im new at this and would appreciate any info. Thanks
Peter /Ithaca N.Y.

Jim Loveridge You might have cleaned off the splines on one of the rear axle hubs. It happend to me. Jack up the rear end, put the tractor in gear and try to rotate one wheel or the other. If one does rotate or seems to have abnormal play in it then that hub is bad. You have to replace both the axle and hub. Whatever is the problem, you should get the I&T FO-4 service manual. Do a Google search on that, they are all over. Keep us informed on your progress.
Bob G Sounds like something other than the rear end. If it was the rear end the PTO should still work I think. I would pull the top off of the trans and see what it looks like. Maybe input shaft problems

Good luck
Keep us posted

peter schwartzott Thanks Bob and Jim for the imput ,sounds like the imput shaft or is it possible that it is the clutch? Thanks .
Peter

Bob G could be clutch or throw out bearing, more likely than input shaft I think, but either way you will need to split the tractor. not a real hard job.

Let us know with new thread when you find out
Good Luck

peter schwartzott Thanks again fellas , update ; I took the upper trans ,shifter plate off put the shifter in gear , engine running, nothing rotating ,with clutch out . Hows that for a clue? Don,t forget I am not a mechanic.
Thanks
Peter

Bob G You are learning, next you can split the tractor and see what the real problem is. Just keep it safe. Floor jack and overhead chain hoist will work great. Don't really need the overhead hoist, can just use jacks and blocking underneath. you just have to be able to move tehe engine haft forward and keep it safe while you are doing it.

Keep us posted.

peter schwartzott Thanks so much Bob you are a great teacher . I will be very cautious. Peter
