Bob G "Backfires when I run the PTO" You got a mower or such hooked up when it happens??

May need a carb adjustement. may be too lean.

the dieing part, check for fuel. check all the filters and for flow through the carb.

michael keefe thanks, checked filters. there good, i'am running a bushhog to cut my grass, rebuilt carb, new points, run fine when idleing. thanks mike
Jim Loveridge My NAA would do the same thing, not the PTO part but would start missing and surging after about 1/2 hour of work. Acted like it was running out of fuel. Turned out to be a tired ignition coil. Check yours to see if it feels hot to the touch when it starts acting up, or just replace it.
michael keefe thanks jim, may get new coil. i'll check back with you later. thanks mike
