water in oil
| jc | i have a 48 8n and there is water mixed in oil. was planning on haveing motor rebuilt this winter. what are possible causes? anything other than a cracked block? if block is cracked is it terminal ? will i need to find another engine or can cracked blocks be welded?

| Bob G | You said you were planning on Having the motor rebuilt. I would check with the rebuilder that you were/are going to use. depending on the crack some can be welded sometimes. If you have antifreeze in it, it can wipe out the bearings in a hurry. Good luck |
| wwildhorse2k | I would check the head gasket first. It's a relatively easy fix. I recently bought a 8N that had antifreeze in the oil but had descent oil pressure. They had changed the head gasket but didnt re-torque it after letting it run for awhile and it started leaking again. I got it and had the head milled enough to flatten it out and installed it and retorqued it 3 times for good measure. A cracked head is another possibility but a new head is cheap. Good luck HTH -- Mark |
