8N Not cranking.

Lew	My friend went to start his 8N and nothing happens. Starter does not turn over, solenoid does not click, there is no sound, just nothing. When jumper cables are attachjed to the battery, the engine cranks immediately on it's own and runs fine. Do not have to push the starter button. Engine quits running if you remove the jumper. Is this a solenoid problem? Engine started and ran fine just a few days earlier. Thanks for any help.
Bob G	sounds to me like you have a dead battery and a stuck solenoid.
Jim Loveridge	Yep! Sounds like the solenoid stuck closed and drained the battery. If you have an ohm meter you can check the solenoid. There should be no continuity between the two large posts unless the solenoid is energized.
Lewis	Thanks for the replies. I did the solenoid check and there was continuity between the posts. Will replace the solenoid and let you know.
