golden jubilee rod bearing

joey I have spun a bearing in my golden jubliee. I dropped the oil pan and you can see the rod that I need bearing for. question is what size do i need. I see everyone sells....Standard / .010 / .020 / .030 / .040

How do I know which I need. I also need the bolts that go with the rod as well. The bolts got bent when it dropped this bearing.

Thank for all your help.

Bob G The only way i know of is to mic the journal. if there is damage, it needs to be turned by a engine shop. they turn the jounals to one of the sizes you mentioned.
Jim Loveridge According to the I&T FO-19 service manual, the rod bearing journal should be 2.2978 - 2.2986.
Regrind if out-of-round 0.001 or if tapered 0.001. Bearing running clearance: 0.0004 - 0.002.
Then it says, Connecting rod should be checked for alignment and straightened or renewed if twist exceeds 0.012 measured 4 inches from centerline of rod or if rod is bent 0.004 or more.

What happend? Did it run low on oil?

JOEY Thanks, but all I want to do is order a bushing and stick it back in. I have dropped the oil pan and looks like a 10 minute job if I can get the size I need. Not really wanting to take of the head off, pull pistons and get into all that comes with that.

I use to cut 2 acre field about 3 times a year is all. 3 hours of run time max usually.

Is this not an easy fix ?

bob G Look on the back of the bearing. some of them are marked as to what they are. other than than that you will have to measure the journal.
Joey The Bearing is shattered in 12 pcs. I will have to take off one of the other bearings that are there and see if it says anything. Thanks. I am not too confident it will say. Measuring the Journal is going to be a beast. I did not take out of the engine. Only dropped the pan. Trying to do all of this through the bottom.

Thanks for the help so far. If it has never been turned.... Then I should be OK with standard....and replace all the bearings at the same time ???? right ??

Bob G You might get one set of standard and check the clearance with plastigage. Jim gave you the clearance specs. If you are not familiar with it any auto parts store should be able to give you check out on it. You can look at the others and then dicide wheter to replace all or not, but i sure would look at them, better safe than sorry.
they usually don't spin for no reason.

Good luck

Jim Loveridge Measuring the rod journal shouldn't be a 'beast'. Rotate the crank shaft till that journal is at the bottom and the rod is left up at the top. Hope you get the old boy running again and have many more seasons of mowing.
Don Joey,it is not a beast, Jim is correct. i replaced a rod bearing in the 8N that i had.....just borrow a mic from someone and write down the dimensions..i would measure top to bottom and side to side, just to see if there is a big difference. Take the dimensions to a tractor place and find out if it has been turned or not........i did mine and it is very easy..mine was 30 under, probably been turned 3 times.........Good luck
joey Just thought I would say thanks for all the help. I have been doing some mild restore work. Mostly painting and getting the color back in him. When I get the bearings back together I hope to have some pictures up and going. Need to sell this guy and get a lawn mower I think.

Thanks again for your help with all of this.
