Zenith carburetor

Mike M Hello.
I have what appears to be a Zenith Model 013876 carburetor on my 1952 Ford 8N. The only way I can keep it running is with 1/2 choke. Does anyone know how to adjust this carburetor? It has on the bottom, what appears to be a needle valve. Is this the high speed adjustment? Thanks for the help.

Regards,
Mike M

Bob G Yes that will be the high speed adjustment. I would start with it out from all the way in and adjust from there.

You may have a fuel fow problem. An 8n has three filter screens. one in thank, one in sediment bolt and one in elbow at carb. I don't think that the Zenith has a drain plug in bottom of bowl but you hsould be aable to remove the main idle jet and gete fuel to run out. should run a good flow of fuel. You cn remove line at carb and check fuel flow but that will not check the screen in carb elbow or the flow thru the float needle.

If you have good fuel flow, you could have a weak spark or an intake air leak. Spark should be a blue stong one not oragnish and be able to jump 3/16 to 1/4 inch. If the spark is weak, it takes more fuel to get it to light off.

IF you have good fuel and good spark you can check for a air leak around the intake manifold and carb attaching pointd with a can of starting fluid with the engine running spray aound the gastket area and listen to see if dthe engine runs different. can also use a propane torch unlite to do the same thing.

Any way a few things you can check.

Good luck
