hydraulic problem 2n

suburban-redneck i developed an new problem. (im about ready to throw a match in her gas tank and roast hotdogs)anyway,my hyd. starts to life when handle is almost 2/3 up quadrant. and it will not stop lifting until arms are all the way up. it lowers just fine but will not hold at any height, just all the way up. then it leaks off pretty quick, i took side cover off, and watched the cylinder with my finish mower on back, leaked pretty bad. so i tore in to her, cylinder didnt look too bad. so im thinking one or more rings are faulty. i was looking to replace piston with an O-ring type, is a good idea or not? any ideas on what would cause the erratic lifting? Thanks in advance.
Bob G Every thing I read says that the o ring type is better. Your choice. The rest of your problem is out of my league. I do know that the 2n does not have position control like the 8n does.

Good luck

Bob G I just looked on John Smith 8ns site about the o ring. He says that if you have deep scratches in bore of cylinder, then you will be better off with the steel rings. Hone cylinder.
Bob G "If the touch control handle is almost to the top of it's travel it may simply be that the control valve is not being pushed in far enough. If this is the way it is then you may be able to adjust the quadrant mount by loosening the four bolts that attach it to the lift housing and with a hammer peck the quadrant toward the back of the tractor. The mounting holes for the quadrant are elongated just for this adjustment. This will make the lift begin to lift farther down the quadrant"

I found this, might help you

suburban-redneck Thanks again Bob.I think I will go ahead and order that o-ring piston.I just wanted to get someone else's opinion on them. I will also try to adjust the quadrant like you said. It will be a few days till I get her back together, ordering parts now. Thanks again
