8n rerar end problems
| Terry Tuttle | I have a 48? 8n, while plowing my small garden i caught it on a rock and it gave me a real good jerk now my poor tractors rear end make a popping sound and the left rear tire seems to be jerking when it tries to turn. Mother nature tried to plan boulders in my garden. I use my tractor mainly to mow my 5 acers with which is now knee high. I only know how to start it and change the oil and add gas and lube it. any help would be most appericetated. zzPTO still works will lift up and down will go into gear and try to turn wheels but make an aful poping sound?

| Bob G | Sounds like you may have damaged the ring and pinon gears in the rearend. About all I know is that yu take the left side off to get into there to look. Could be more work than you want to do unless you have the tools and equipment. maybe someone else has a better idea Good luck Let us know hwt you find. |
| Jim Loveridge | There's a good chance that you only took out the splins on the left side hub and or axle. Same thing happened to my NAA (same rear end) last year while pulling a hung up tree. I thought sure it was the differential, but it was only the hub. You have to replace both the hub and axle though. If you want to try it yourself you will need a 3/4 inch socket set and access to a torque wrench that will go to 450 ft/lbs. and the I&T F-04 service manual. If you jack up the left side wheel and turn it with the tractor in gear or at least try you should hear that same popping sound. Mine was free wheeling. Then do the same thing on the other side and see what happens.
